Tuesday evening it began to rain and continued to rain off and on through the night. That meant that Wednesday morning began with getting the mud and rain water out of the holes for the footings. The plan was to get all of the footings and support posts cemented in by the end of the morning since the afternoon was for VBS. We had NOT planned on having to battle mucho mucho mud.
Jim got the drainage pipe unclogged so that the extra water began to drain off of the surface.
We used the bottoms of plastic jugs to bail water and mud out of the holes.
Another tool we used was a trowel, the sort used when laying bricks. Not the most efficient way to dig out the holes.
The mud didn't stop our smiles or our laughter. Beware of the photobomb!
Every bit of water and loose mud had to be removed from the holes before the concrete could be poured. This meant practically standing on our heads in the holes.
We began pouring concrete an hour before we had to stop and prepare for VBS. You have never seen people moving so quickly with such heavy loads.
We became very serious when the concrete work began. We had only that one hour and we knew we needed to get the holes filled before it began raining again later in the day.
We might have gotten a wee bit dirty.
I can't get over seeing all these pictures of you all working so hard, and in the heat too! Job well-done!
ReplyDeleteI have really enjoyed this blog and being able to gain a sense of what has been happening in Costa Rica. Thank you all for being such great servants. See you back tomorrow!
